Taking a Bite of the Big Apple: 4 Unique Tours of NYC

Whether you are a first-time visitor or you already know New York, you can always find something different and exciting to explore in NYC. Instead of following the crowds, try something different, like one of these 4 ideas for touring NYC in a new way.

Bring Out Your Nerdy Side at a Museum Tour

New York is a mecca for museum lovers because it has some of the most-visited art, history, and natural institutions in the world. Start out by visiting the Guggenheim Museum, which is a piece of art in itself with its Frank Lloyd Wright structure. You can also admire the works of artists of the caliber of Cezanne, Kandinsky and Gauguin. If you want a special experience, splurge on a private tour, starting at $150 per person.

Take a pleasurable walk through Central Park and head to the American Museum of Natural History, which is loved by both kids and adults. You can download the iPhone app “Night at the Museum,” which will guide you through the spots from the famous movie.

Another museum that should definitely be on your New York itinerary is the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. I’ve written a whole post about visiting this museum, you can find it here.

Pretend To Be Your Sport Hero for the Day

If you prefer sports to art, that’s no problem; New York has it all. It’s fun to visit the New York sporting venues you’ve seen so many times during the games.

Head to Yankee Stadium, located in The Bronx, and check out the huge complex who made the history of American baseball. For the second stop, go to Madison Square Garden,  is full of fond memories for NBA fans. If you haven’t had enough, visit MetLife Stadium, home to New York’s National Football League teams: the Giants and the Jets.

New York is an exciting destination for graffiti lovers, and you can’t miss a street-art tour. You could do it by yourself, but in this case it’s interesting to hear the history behind the works, especially when it’s a former graffiti artist to show you the hidden gems NYC has to offer.

The tour price is $25, and you can choose between a tour of Bushwick or Williamsburg, neighborhoods where it’s possible to see works of art from international artists.

Discover the Hotels Straight Out of the Movies

Who doesn’t remember the famous scenes from The Great Gatsby, or, less recently, from Home Alone 2 filmed inside The Plaza? Stay at one of the most iconic hotels in New York City to get a first-hand look at what they’re really like.

After touring The Plaza, head to The Chelsea Hotel, made famous by Chelsea Girls. Afterward, have a drink at The St. Regis New York, famous for the filming of The Godfather (and for inventing the Bloody Mary). And, Gossip Girls fans cannot skip The New York Palace, where much of the show was filmed.
