8 BEST Food Tours in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is one of the most cosmopolitan, buzzing capital cities in South America. Renowned for its vibrant nightlife, culture, and striking architecture, it’s an incredible destination – I never get bored of it.

But we shouldn’t leave its mouth-watering cuisine aside! From the traditional asado grilled meat to the smooth and sweet dulce de leche (and SO many options in between!) Argentinian food is among my favorites.

My husband is Argentinian, after all, and I’ve eaten my way through Buenos Aires more times than I could count. So you can trust me when I say joining a food tour is one of the best things you’ll do in the city!

A culinary experience, led by a fellow foodie, will allow you to try most local specialties as you learn about their origins and history.

I have curated a list of the best food tours in Buenos Aires, which offer the best value and experiences. They’ve been carefully handpicked, and you’ll only find excursions I would join myself or recommend my friends. So you’re in good hands!

Why should you trust me? I have a decade of experience curating travel guides and itineraries all over the world, and know how to identify the very best activities. I’ve made sure all the tours on this list are high-quality, led by professionals, and offer excellent value. Plus, I’ve been to Buenos Aires many times (my husband is Argentinian) and I’ve gone on a few of these activities myself!

I generally use Viator and Get Your Guide to book tours around the world. I especially recommend them for their great cancellation policy. You can cancel most activities up to 24 hours in advance and get a full refund.

OUR PICK: The BEST Food Tour in Buenos Aires

Dive into the most vibrant neighborhood of the city with the Local Foodie Adventure in Buenos Aires

This a half-day excursion that will take you around the Palermo district, checking out both its newer and most traditional areas. Walk past a beautiful park and along its charming streets (some boast beautiful murals!), stopping at four different local restaurants for tastings.

You’ll sample regional wine, meats (how could it be an Argentinian food tour without meat?), various desserts such as ice cream and flan, and specialties that include empanadas and fainá. The servings are generous, and will most than make up for a meal.

The tour isn’t only about eating, though. Your knowledgeable guide will introduce you to local culinary traditions and the heritage of each dish. The groups are small, so you’ll enjoy a personalized activity and get to ask all your questions.

Why is this the best tour? It’s a wholesome introduction to Argentinian cuisine. It includes over 8 traditional dishes and drinks, as well as a comprehensive explanation of the city’s culinary heritage. It takes place in Buenos Aires’ most coveted district, and has over 2 thousand previous visitors to vouch for it!

“The Sherpa Food Tour was fantastic – an experience I’ll never forget! Our guide, Kiara, was incredible. We sampled everything from Malbec to delicious empanadas. We ended the experience with some delicious ice cream – who doesn’t love that? This tour perfectly married culture with cuisine, making it a must-do for anyone looking to dive into Argentina’s culinary traditions.’’

OUR 2ND PICK: The Argentine Experience, an Immersive Dining Experience

Step into the heart of the city with this Argentine Experience: Immersive 6 Course Menu with Wine Tasting. Technically, this can’t be considered a food tour because you won’t change location, but it’s my favorite food experience in Buenos Aires so it had to be on this list. This activity is a combination of a food tour and a cooking class, and you get to eat a LOT.

The activity starts with a mixology class, in which you’ll sip a Malbec-based cocktail and learn to make your own. (The mixology experience is optional, so you’ll have to opt for it at checkout).

Then, discover the art of shaping empanadas, adding the filling to the dough and closing it in the shape of a half moon, like the locals do. I don’t want to reveal too much because I like the surprise aspect of the experience, but you’ll also get to compete with your fellow travelers!

The empanadas workshop is followed by an Argentinian meal is paired with four boutique wines. And the food is YUMMY!

For dinner you can expect the country’s best steak, bife de lomo, other meat cuts, chorizo, grilled provoleta cheese, salad, and side dishes. It will be quite the challenge to finish your plate…It’s a six-couse feast, after all!

At the end of the meal, you’ll be treated to the region’s most traditional beverage: mate. Learn about its history and how to prepare it, before tasting it with sweet alfajores and a few more dessert dishes…. flan with dulce de leche anyone?

Why should I choose this activity? It’s arguably the most comprehensive food experience in the entire city, combining a cooking class with a dining experience. It introduces the mate culture, which is not usually included in most tours, and offers tastings of pretty much every Argentinian staple. Plus, you get to learn how to make empanadas!

Read what the reviews say:

“This was by far the best of all my experiences in Buenos Aires. I did the mixology and dinner and I’m glad I did both. The dinner portion was also fantastic, from the empanada lesson to the main course to the dessert and mate experience. After eating and drinking and playing fun games together you’ll leave with some new friends! This is a can’t miss experience!’’
