9 BEST Bangkok Food Tours

Bangkok is a city that hits you with energy the moment you arrive—the chaos, the colors, the endless things to see and do. But if there’s one thing you can’t skip, it’s diving into its incredible food scene.

You can try local specialties at street markets and small family-run restaurants, but if you really want to discover new flavors and understand the stories behind each dish, joining a food tour is the best way to do it. It’s an experience that deserves a spot in your Bangkok itinerary.

With a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll find hidden gems, visit tiny eateries you’d never stumble upon alone, and taste dishes that aren’t in your typical guidebook. I’ve personally been on two of the tours on this list, and I truly think Bangkok is one of the best cities in the world for food tours.

And before we dive in, let me answer a question I get many times: yes, Thai street food is (generally) safe. It’s the heart of Bangkok’s food culture, and I’ve eaten it countless times with no issues.

With a tour, you’ll be guided to trusted vendors, but in general, a good rule of thumb is to choose food that’s cooked fresh and follow the locals—if a place is packed, it’s usually for a reason!

Why should you trust me? I’ve lived in Bangkok for over six months, eaten my way through its street markets and restaurants, and have a decade of experience in the travel industry selecting the best tours. I carefully selected these food tours in Bangkok to make sure you get an authentic taste of the city.

I generally use Viator and Get Your Guide to book my tours and experiences all over the world. Both platforms offer high-quality activities, but I especially recommend them for their cancellation policy. If your travel plans change, you can cancel most tours up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.

OUR PICK: The BEST Food Tour in Bangkok

The Bangkok Backstreets Food Tour 15 plus Tastings Included is my top choice to eat your way through the city. It’s designed by chefs, ensuring the ultimate quality and flavor of the tastings, which are plenty!

I personally went on this tour, and I can’t recommend it enough, starting with the group size, which is capped at 8 people, offering an intimate and very personalized experience.

We met our foodie guide at the Shanghai Mansion Hotel in Chinatown, where the tour takes place. You might be surprised to learn that China had a strong influence on Thai cuisine (I know I was!) which is why the foodie excursion takes place around the streets of Yaowarat.

The guide told us all about the connection between these two cuisines as we walked down various alleyways, stopping at street food stalls, restaurants, and local eateries for really delicious tastings.

We had chicken skewers marinated in coconut milk and peanut satay, a soup with rice noodles and pork belly, chive dumplings with a special sauce, slow-braised pork, and shrimp dumplings.

We also tried the famous Tum Yum Goong seafood soup, and one of the highlights was having a rich curry with sausage at a food stall that appeared in the Netflix show Street Food and which apparently, is a local legend.

Besides the amazing food, it was a great experience to walk along the busy road covered in neon signs and bright lights and get to explore it with a local.

The tour lasts four hours and starts at various times throughout the afternoon, and the tastings are plenty, so they’ll more than make up for your dinner!

As a side note, this tour is super comprehensive and gives you the chance to try a lot of authentic dishes, which means it can’t be adapted to suit all dietary requirements, such as vegetarian or people with severe allergies.

If you’re pescatarian or gluten-free, you might have to skip a few tastings, but could still enjoy the rest of the tour.

Why is this the top tour? It’s as much a cultural and adventure tour as it’s a foodie experience, introducing you to the most traditional dishes as you learn about their history and origins. While it’s not suitable for people with special dietary needs, it’s the perfect tour for adventurous eaters as it introduces you to all the most iconic, authentic bites without restrictions.

“What an amazing evening! Our guide Pach was so knowledgeable and friendly. This tour provides a unique experience visiting many side street stalls that without prior knowledge would likely be missed by tourists. Many of the places are listed in a Michelin guide. I cannot recommend this tour enough. It is a highlight of our trip.”

OUR 2nd PICK: A Morning Food Tour in Bangkok

The Old Siam Bangkok Food Tour: 15+ Tastings Included is a great foodie experience, and since it takes place in the morning, it’s the perfect alternative if you can’t make the first tour.

We had an incredible time on this tour, starting with the traditional klong boat trip along Bangkok’s canals. We glided past locals’ houses and disembarked in an old district for a tuk-tuk tour that stopped at a couple of local eateries for tastings, and eventually led us to foodie paradise, otherwise known as Nang Loeng Market.

This lively market, which has been open since the late 19th century (!) is home to the most incredible food stalls and eateries, where we sampled authentic Thai dishes that you don’t usually find on the tourist trail.

We had khanom buang yuan, which is a crispy mung bean crepe filled with ginger, coconut meat, and tofu, drizzled with a coconut sugar dressing and pineapple vinegar that’s to die for!

We also got to try a dish called miang kham, which are betel leaves wrapped around coconut, peanuts, and shallots, a roasted duck, and a delicious broth with rice noodles, kuay jab.

The tour was capped with sweet treats (my favorites!), and we got the district’s specialties, which are a steamed coconut pudding (khanom tuay) and coconut flan. Yum!

The tour lasts 4 hours and groups are capped at 8 people, which felt really exclusive.

Why this tour? It introduces you to a different side of Thai cuisine that you won’t find in other tours. You’ll savor authentic flavors at a market that’s beloved by the locals, and learn about the history and traditions of Thai cuisine from a savvy and very friendly guide. We also ate a lot, the tastings are very generous!

“Chai was an excellent guide and the tour was so much more than I expected! We had so many different delicious foods and as much as we wanted with cold bottles of water. We took a long boat, public bus, and tuk tuk. Everything was so much fun and I highly recommend this tour!”
